contraception

It is really important you think about what form of contraception you will use to protect yourself from pregnancy or a sexually transmitted infection before you have sex.

You can go to your doctor, Family Planning or Brook clinic for contraceptive services. You can receive confidential advice a nd treatment on contraceptive services even if you are under 16.

emergency contraception

If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse or your contraception failed (i.e. a condom split or you forgot to take a pill) then you are at risk of becoming pregnant.

You may prevent a pregnancy by taking emergency contraception within 72 hours of having sex. The sooner you can take it the more effective it is. You can obtain emergency contraception free of charge from Family Planning, Brook, Dartmouth Clinic, your doctor and chemists that are apart of the (MAP) Morning After Pill scheme.

If you want to buy emergency contraception this will cost approximately £30.00 from your local chemist. You must be over sixteen years of age to buy emergency contraception.

However, If you are aged 18 or under and live in Sandwell you can obtain emergency contraception (morning after pill) from some of the chemists in Sandwell free of charge.  For more information please see information under Sandwell MAP.

For additional information call NHS Direct, a 24 hours confidential Helpline on 0845 4647, or the Family Planning Association Helpline on 0845 310 1334 between 9am and 7pm, or Brook Helpline on 0800 0185 023.
